By coincidence I spent all day today (OK i'm slow) replacing the vacuum lines in my 2004 linear 52k miles. They too mostly crumbled into black dust. I did use the super blue silicone hose, mostly so I'd know which I had done. I also replaced the bypass valve, the bypass control solenoid, and the boost solenoid (and its hoses; just the regular black ones). And, nearly forgot, the bypass pipe o-ring, which seemed to have shrunk. As a result the car idles much more smoothly and picks up way better when the gas is pressed. Unfortunately I can offer no insight as to what made it work, as I could not diagnose the problem and that is why I finally gave in and bought all the valves and hoses and did the lot. My car used to make a boing noise and a sort of drum roll every so often going up hill. Both are gone now. I'll listen to the radio instead I guess.
I also sealed around the intake pipe at the throttle body with silicone, as oil was leaking out (just a little), but I figured if oil can get out, air could get in.
I also checked the check valves to the brake servo (suck and blow) and they were good. I checked the check valve in the PCV line to the intake at the MAF. It does not check, i.e it is open to both suck and blow. I had purchased a replacement hose (genuine Saab) and the check valve in it does not seal either. I am awaiting replacement as I write this.
Hope you can find some use in the above.
Just an aside. I also replaced the oil pressure sender as it was leaking very slightly. I used an aftermarket thing. Now I get a low oil pressure warning at idle. I think I'll put the old one back...
Good luck. Chris
