I had this exact problem. And I fixed it. The FM antenna is built into the defrost grid (probably already established). In my case, I found a little tiny black speck in one of the defrost grid lines. It was a little tiny break in the line. I got a kit from Advance Auto Parts by Permatex with conductive paint in it. I taped off the stripe, put a few coats of the stuff on, and peeled off the tape according to the instructions... and it worked! No more static with the defrost on.
The bozo who owned my car before put a nice big fat round sticker on the inside of the rear windshield down in the corner. Of course when they peeled it off to trade the car in, they took all the conductive grid off with it! I have about 5 stripes that don't work at all, but because they are large gaps they don't cause static. And the Permatex stuff doesn't work for large areas like this. Ask how I know... grr.
I tried looking for a spark at night where my little break was but I didn't see anything. You're probably just going to have to visually inspect the whole grid from the outside. Good luck!
