Yeah it is a pet peeve for me when seeing it. It probably doesn't make a difference but as Saab oem pads show, they should be mounted with the indicator pointing down.
The only thing I can see is if pointing up, it might be a minuscule chance that the indicator fold and gets jammed in under the pad and rotor whereas when pointing down, it only flexed outwards.
So I also point out when they are mounted upside down.
