Hi Herb,
Many thanks indeed for your considered response. This thing has of course happened at the most inopportune time, when I am trying to ready my house to be put on the market and am shopping for another, as such I did not get a chance to try out any of your advice today. I did drive the car for one lot of errands late in the day, and the malfunction occurred again, however by the time I got the car home it had all come good and I could not get it to occur again so as to be able to test it.
What I did notice is that when it is happening, the electric mirrors are also off-line, as is the cigarette lighter. The sunroof and all interior lights do work however.
Also, when the malfunction is occuring, no amount of jiggling the key while the car is in gear will get it to come good. However with the engine running and the malfunction occurring and the tranny in Park, jiggling the key (turning towards the spring loaded 'crank' position) will repeatedly get everything to come back on line.
I have to finish the renovation of the laundry tomorrow, but will hopefully get time to start fault finding as you suggested. I will have to find this relay 22, and see where it is located in a right-hand drive car.
Many thanks again, it is hugely appreciated. I will report back with my findings.
Cheers
Steve
