GT17 to TD04 Conversion - Clarifications Needed

OK, I've waded thru a lot of the related GT17 to TD04 conversion threads and still have a couple points to clarify.
1. Other posts have said the GT17 oil and coolant lines can be used on the TD04 if the TD04 M12 x 1.5 banjo bolts are "shimmed" (?). Does this just mean to use the proper 12MM copper washers with the M12 bolts? I was going to use the M12 x 1.5 banjo bolts from http://www.brakequip.com/fitting7.html and the 12MM copper washers listed on another page. Is this the proper approach?
2. The GT17 oil return tube is a single-piece stainless with an flexible "accordian" section. The TD04 schematic shows an oil return line made up of a combination of hard parts and a rubber tube. Should I get the TD04 oil return tube or may I re-use the GT17 unit.
