The general consensus from my mechanic friends is that shifing to Neutral causes additional wear on the gear selector plus the wear when you re-engage the torque converter to get started again.
However, if sitting a very long light or a railroad crossing for a train, then shifting to Neutral can help keep the torque converter from overheating the transmission fluid as you just sit.
