#1: remove your battery to get LOT MORE working room.
the sensor comes out with a deep 19mm socket but the inside of the socket has to be deep enough inside. I borrowed someone's impact 19 that was bored out deeper than my craftsman which wouldn't quite fit. find a 19 that will fit over it. can be done with box end but socket is easier b/c of limited space and hoses. I did have my upper hose removed at the time.
I recommend doing the t-stat and sensor in same day. both cheap$ parts online. also good time to drain, flush and refill with all fresh coolant. I think my t-stat was the problem actually. sticking open. that's more likely the problem than a sensor.
I used all sockets for t-stat and sensor. t-stat is harder to deal with the bolts facing the rear but still very easy DIY job. having several varying length socket extensions will help greatly. search the BB for more instructions on the t-stat and sensor.
this DIY job is a confidence booster!
check my pic. you can see the elect connector (blue and disconnected) for the sensor in the lower left corner just below the t-stat housing / upper hose pipe (hose is off). this is the area you'll be working.
and have some vaseline on hand for the t-stat gasket.
