I mostly agree. Do your homework first. I'd say the weaknesses go in stages for various years, but 2004+ are generally free of the worst problems. 2002 did get past a bunch of issues of the earlier years, but sludge is a definite possibility... when we were looking for one, none of the ones I looked at had pcv#6... not one. doesn't mean it's bad, but without complete oil change records (again, not 1 car I found had this), there's a definite risk. Leased cars generally weren't kept up to the standards of people on this board. Dropping the pan might be costly if you are not 100% sure you are buying the car. But an indy should do a pre-purchase inspection anyway, and a sludge check of some sort (minimum coathanger, valve cover better) should be part of that.
