I haven't had the chance to drive the G35 yet-but I've had several opportunities to check the car out. The exterior styling is nice, but the retro '80s interior styling is unbecoming a car in the $35k+ range aspring to knock off the likes of Audi, BMW, etc. In particular the stereo control buttons on the steering wheel, the power seat controls, etc. The have that low grade feel and look like they came from surplus Sony radios from the early '80s. And where the power seat controls are placed are a little more convenient, but they're gonna get trashed over time with stuff spilled onto them. The whole faux metal look of the interior, while initially impressive-just looks cheap after a few minutes of sitting in the car. Infiniti really lost it in this one. Almost as bad as when they changed the character of the first Q45 when they introduced the grille.
The car only seats four-but there is a seatbelt for a rear middle passenger who gratefully (not!) gets to sit on the hump with no support and devoid of a rear headrest. If someone has to sit there, better hope he's your best friend-because after a long trip, he'll probably kill ya.
Before I saw the car in person, I thought it would be at least a TL Type-S killer. But my first impressions don't think it will be so. I s'ppose all that could change after I get to drive one...but so far, my vote is no-it isn't.
