Temp Gauge -- Long Posted by pme [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Folks: I've spent a bunch of time researching this on the board and have gotten some great information. I'm going to summarize my issue (and what I've read) so I can confirm a course of action.......
2003, 9-5 Arc (3.0L V6) 129K miles. During highway driving in very cold weather, temp gauge occassionally drops to 0, no CEL. Heat seems less enthusiastic than it should be (at least compared to my wife's car).
If it threw a CEL with the low operating temperature code, then the answers per the board are quite clear -- likely thermostat.
Because I have not thrown a CEL, as best as I can tell from board research, this still could be a wonky thermostat - albeit not consistently bad enough to trigger code and CEL yet, but on its way or - OR temp sensor sending unit.
Is this a fair assessment of what you guys have found in similar situations?
Thanks in advance . . . the various with and without CEL versions of the posts out there have me a bit unsure as to when or when not a thermostat....
