My 2002 Arc wagon, 95k miles, occasionally will drop the temp gauge from normal to zero instantly while I am driving. A restart usually puts the gauge back in order, but now I have a CEL. People on the board suggested I replace the temp sensor first, as it's cheap and easy. B. Millar even posted a diagram which will be two or three pages down on the board.
The thermostat is a major operation, so I won't have that done unless the temp sensor replacement fails to cure the problem. BTW the temp and warmup times appear normal when the gauge is working, which is almost always.
