GOOD to fix this now Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Fan belt squeak...ever since I bought it., LesH, Fri, 19 Mar 2010 15:19:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The pulleys are plastic with permanently lubricate bearings. The grease dries out, the bearings make noise and the bearings heat up. If it is really bad, it will break or melt the pulley and then .....boom the belt comes off and leaves you stranded somewhere.
You can put in OEM pulleys. Wazee [google them] makes aluminum ones with high quality removable bearings.
In summary, new belt, 2 idler pulleys, and new idler worth the peace of mind. Check the alternator and water pump bearings while you are in there.
Maybe the noise was a blessing.....I know I feel that way about my '06......it was making noise and it got me to do something about it RIGHT NOW and I am glad i did.
