Wheel bolts are not a self-locking piece of hardware like CV nuts are. The self-locking feature of the CV nut is damaged by removing it and so it should NOT be reused.
The manufacturer specifies that the nuts are a one time use only item. Anyone who reuses them and subsequently has an accident attributable in any way, in other words, at any arms length whatsoever, to their re-use is setting themselves up for a very nasty and expensive lawsuit.
It costs me $100 to file and it costs you $10,000 to defend. Not nice.
Does that clarify why we use a new nut? Hope so. Happy motoring.
