You may not have much knowledge about how cars work, or be inclined to do the work yourself, but you need to be savvy enough to recognize a line of BS when you hear it. It's the forewarned is forearmed approach.
SO...
when you have a question or concern about your car, come here first and get some input. Folks here have experienced virtually every problem you are likely to encounter, know the fixes and what causes the problem. Very often, the collective knowledge here exceeds that of the average dealer tech or service advisor/manager. Armed with that info you are MUCH less likely to have a dealer or disreputable tech try to rip you off. They may still be obstinate, but I find if you let them know you have a clue you are treated differently (and better) than someone who doesn't know a spark plug from a thrombulator bearing.
