Not so easy to check the level. There is a "level" plug on the driver's side of the transmission case. You need an 8 MM Allen Wrench to break it loose. With the car in level position the fluid should be just barely starting to come out of the hole. Problem is . . . the car has to be level, so that means that the car has to be up in the air (jack stands, blocks, whatever) so that you can get underneath to work on it and/or see the plug and fluid.
Me, I'd just gently drive it home and check/change the transmission fluid when I had all my tools handy. Good luck to you.
