Glad you're OK, but I'm really surprised that your airbags went off.
The bear doesn't look THAT big, was it that violent of a collision?
I hit an adult deer with my 2002 Aero SW 4 months ago. I was doing about 55, and it wasn't dead center on the car like your's, as the deer must have been running full blast and hit slightly on driver's side of center. My car took the hit "fine", no loss of stability, nor anywhere near violent enough to warrant air bags.
Unfortunately, my "immaculate" (almost) first SAAB was totaled.
Even though my deer might have weighed more than your bear, one possible difference may have been the higher center of gravity of the deer. I think it must have gone over my car, although I don't remember seeing damage on top. It did take out radiator and intercooler, along with headlight, hood, etc.
Good luck with getting things straightened out. I was very disappointed with the insurance settlement I received from Travelers, but I guess it evened out. Two weeks earlier my daughter totaled her 1999 9-5 SE(4), and State Farm gave us a very good payout.
If you need to replace, at least you have some selection out NE. Here in Midwest (especially NE Indiana), pickings are slim.
