Yes, it could very well be something easy that you can fix yourself like a broken vacuum hose that is messing around with the fuel mixture. How good are you with working around the engine compartment locating components?
It could also be a failed catalytic converter to the tune of $1500.00 for a genuine one.
Only you can provide us with enough information so that we can give you a somewhat correct guess.
The smog report with numbers is a must and if the check engine light is one, what are the fault codes logged?
