Sure a sticking check valve can cause the problem. But the most common cause of low pressure is a blocked oil pickup in the pan. Best to check this first.But since you just had your switch replaced I think it is likely the problem...changing the check valve is a waste of time without checking the oil pressure first. I would have the pressure tested to verify it is not the sensor... I think it is easier to test the oil pressure then replacing the sensor. Replacing the sensor is a PITA. I can see your mechanic being pissed. Because of a failed part he has to do about 2 free hours of labour. That sucks.. poor guy, but he should not try and make it up by changing other stuff.
