R. Frist is right about them. use the hilt of the screwdriver in the trunk for removal.
To reinstall, what you want to do is push the center pin BACK through the head. I usually remove it completely, as it makes the body of the rivet go into its hole a lot easier. Install the body of the rivet in its hole, then push the center pin back through. Press it home with something flat, like the hilt of a screwdriver NOT from the car's toolkit. You want to leave the center part of the rivet flush with the head of the rivet.
Also, these rivets don't like being played with in the cold. Not that it's a problem this time of year...
