They DO come apart at the visible seam, but they are so well fitted together that it takes quite a force to pull them apart. The only thing I could think of would be to wedge the shank in a vise very tightly, and pull on the key part with a hook in the keyring, directly away from the shank, using a light slide hammer. But this may be just as likely to yank the shank out of the bottom part of the key head as it would be to pull the chip part out of the bottom. Or,it could break the chip part, if you don't use a wide enough thing through the keyring slot that would distribute the load.
