From my own experience (family and friends) changing auto tranny oil when it has never been done is taking a BIG risk (esp one with high mileage) A few friends of mine (and my parents) had their older model cars (which shifted great!!) had a auto tranny service done. About a week later, it started slipping and finally it stopped working. Auto tranny fluid has super detergents in it and cleans REALLY well. An older auto tranny that MIGHT have a little "gunk" in it but shifts great, all that "gunk" will get cleaned out and all hell could break loose. A few indy mechanics told me the same thing several times. If you MUST do something, maybe take out a quart+ and then add what is needed and a few ounces of Lucas Auto tranny supplement. I do this in my dad's 9-5 and it has been working great for years. I would be VERY nervous of a tranny 'FLUSH" Just my own experience.
