The key for my 9000T went into the steering column, and by golly it started the car just fine. Remember why we have keys? I can't imagine how I could get my leg up where the key is without breaking a bone or two first, and if that happened in an accident, a key gouge is probably the least of my worries. Harking back to my really old Saab 99, I think the real history of the key placement is that, in that car at least, you could not remove the ignition key without first placing the car into reverse. The key had to be on the transmission tunnel, because it was part of a transmission lock. I miss the storage space in my 9000, and think it is time for Saab to abandon this wasteful use of valuable space. My firesuit size is 42R.
