I don't think it's from oil starvation. Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Name that sound..., SWEDECAR ![]() ![]() |
The tick seems to be coming from the top end. Either in the valve-train or exhaust manifold. We'll get a broom stick out and listen more carefully... The cam-lobes looked brand new; no scoring whatsoever from lack of lubrication. With all the coffee-ground stuff we cleaned out of the oil pan and pickup screen, I think there's a pretty good chance one of the lifters could be blocked up with some of that. If we pull the valve cover and start poking at the lifters it should be pretty apparent if one is spongy, right? If the bottom end had been oil-starved, my understanding is it would make more of a deep knocking sound rather than a quick, sharp tick?
And for the whistle sound, I agree that it's a freak air leak in the intake somewhere. We'll poke around and maybe swap turbo bypass and boost control valves between my car to see if anything's faulty and report back. I'll also read the CEL again because that's been on with a P1312/P1334. Maybe there are more codes stored now though.
Thanks for your help, Anders!
