I have some oil residue on the right side (wheel side) of my engine block: 2000 2.3t.
I've never had to add oil and the PO said he never had to either. First thing I did after purchase was PCV #6 but I didn't replace any extra hoses, just the ones in the kit. The main seal and O-ring were dealer replaced by PO around 115K miles, I'm now at about 140K. There is no oil on the outside of the valve cover gasket; if it was leaking on the inside gasket could it end up on the outside of the block? I haven't taken the valve cover off yet but plan on doing so hopefully this weekend.
Head bolts were re-torqued and may have been replaced at dealer by PO sometime ago when a small oil leak was noticed.
Indy says probably oil sender. As I understand it the oil sender is on the backside of the engine though so wouldn't put oil on the side?
Also, is there a way to check the timing chain wear and/or tensioner wear while I have the valve cover off?
All help is greatly appreciated.
