I've got the Aero, and am in the UK so I'm not sure how the specs differ etc or what you get in the Premium Package. But of the things I've found useful in terms of gadgets, I'd have to rate very highly the LCD rear view mirror (available as a reasonably priced accessory option folks if you've not got it already), and the Rain Sensor wipers. Certain gadgets you think might be useful, but some, once you've had them, can't imagine having a car without them. Those two items fall into that category for me - as useful as central locking.
The other one item I like is the Park Assist. The 9-5 is very high at the rear, and it can be very difficult to see obstacles and judge distances behind you. The park assist solves that very nicely.
HID lights are very nice - but not a must have. The 9-5 has a good lighting system anyway, and if it weren't for the fact that they come included on the Aero in the UK now, I wouldn't have paid the hefty price they command. Very good though.
Make sure you look all around the car very closely for signs of damage in transit. Make sure the tyres look inflated, lights work, and check out all the gadgets to verify their functionality. Get the dealer to go through everything before you leave, all the gadgets, show you the dipstick, how to check fluid levels etc - it serves two purposes - you make sure everything functions, and is present and correct, and get to see how it operates. That said, the Saab is very ergonomic, and intuitive to use. I doubt you'll need to read the manual to work out how everything works. The only time I've had to read and reread the manual is for the advanced RDS features on the radio. Don't think you have RDS in the States though.
Run it in gently. There is no need to flog the 9-5, or use high rpm to get moving, and it will pay dividends in the future. I can't recall for sure, but it looks like they have extended the running in interval to 1200 miles from what I thought was 1000 miles on my last '99 9-5. They say to keep under 5000 rpm, but I think that's too high, and haven't ventured past 3500rpm in mine yet at 450 miles. The manual also advises no full throttle acceleration for the first 1800 miles, except for very brief periods.
Don't wax the car for 3 months. That bit is murder for me, as I want to lavish love and affection on the car, but the manual explicitly says not to, and, as mine was a fresh build from the factory, I know the car hasn't been sat in a dealer's lot for months.
That's about it! Enjoy your new car!
