Saab still use a cable to operate the throttle in a semi drive-by-wire scenario.
The cable attached to gas pedal pulls the throttle arm with one potentiometer on. That potentiometer sends signals to fuel computer which than operates the electrical throttle motor to open up throttle blade which also have a potentiometer attached for control values sent back to fuel computer.
Volvo on the other hand and Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan are true drive-by-wire with no cable at all.
So if the cable break or become dislodged, you will loose all power except idle.
