Hi Mark. I'm in Winnipeg with slightly lower temps than you see down there in the big smoke and thus slightly more . . . . difficult . . engine temp cooling/heating life. I would suggest that you install a Scangauge - I got mine from a place in Edmonton - that will allow you to see real time data from the car's sensors.
It's interesting to watch the info (digital numbers rather than a needle) and see the coolant temp increase, then decrease sharply when the thermostat first opens, then rise again, then fluctuate around the proper temp. It gives you better info on how the parts of the system are working.
Many other features in it, something like 12 different gauges if you want, plus warning light/message cancel, plus trip computer. Check it out, Mark. I think it would help you with your problem. Good luck.
