Broken fitting removing fuel pump-options?

I received my new fuel pump today and decided to install it after work. I slid the plastic lock tab aside and while trying to extract the fitting that goes into the fuel pump it just snapped off! I was wiggling the fitting back and forth while pulling up (gently I thought) and snap. So now what? Is the end that goes into the fuel pump available as a stand alone part? I have a parts car so i Figured that if I could remove the broken end piece I could just replace it with the one from the donor car. I applied a judicious amount of heat from my heat gun and the part will spin on the line but will not release. Has anyone had one of these plastic elbows break and how did you resolve this? This gas line seems rather unusual-it is not spongy like rubber line yet it is somewhat flexible. I'm not sure how much or if it even will allow itself to stretch to fit over the barbed end of the elbow with heat. I might just have to replace the entire line from the tank to the engine compartment. Any suggestions? Dave F.
