I had a similar experience. The plastic fuel line hose is heat shrunk around the plastic fitting and is not expandable afterwards to get the fitting off or install a new one. You can cut the gas line at the end of the fitting.
Eeuroparts sells a valve
Name: Fuel Pump Check Valve (feed)
Part Code: 4161766
Brand: Genuine Saab
which fits into the pump. I spliced the fuel line, using fuel line from the local autoparts store whose ID was the OD of the saab fuel line. I happened to have some thin wall stainless steel tubing which I inserted into the saab fuel line, so that when I tightened the hose clamps,it didn't crush the line. For safety, I used two clamps on each side, since you don't want a fuel leak in that area. The new valve did not have the back flow check in it, but the person at Eeuro indicated it would work fine, and it has.
