I did two 9-5's this past fall. A 2000 LPT and my 2004 Aero. The procedures were identical.
1). Yes, you need to remove the top yoke/bracket. You don't need to put a block between the engine and the frame. I just left the weight of the engine on my jack.
2). I had help on the 2000. I did it myself no problemo on the 2004. Just do yourself a favor and get a bigass 1/2" drive socket extension. That way you can use the extension's leverage while you wiggle the key in.
