I experienced a very disturbing incident recently after picking up my wife's 95 wagon from my dealer's service department. Due to surface rusting on the car's lug nuts, the dealer agreed to replace them under warranty. On the way home from the dealer, I stopped to pickup my infant son at his daycare. The total trip from the dealer to home was about 15 miles.
Upon arriving home, my wife came out to look over her car. It was then that she discovered to my shock that the dealer forgot to re-install 4 of the lug nuts on the drivers side rear tire. I had traveled all of the way home with only one lug nut holding the tire in place. My wife's daily commute is over 40 miles. The tire would surely have fallen off the next day had she not noticed the dealers mistake.
My question is; how should I have reacted to the dealer and what should their actions have been? The owner of the dealership called to apologize and I was informed that the technician who worked on the car was fired. Should I now just let it go? I enjoy Saabs, we also have a 2001 95 aero that was purchased at the same dealership. I just can't help think what could have happen if the tire had come off with my son in the car.
