Was it kids involved in the family left in car?
Maybe someone manage to move the gearshifter out of reverse that happened so often back in the days of the old 900 and valet parking.
It was many times they managed to move the gear shifter out of reverse without turning on the ignition and get it stuck in 4th position and that locked up the key.
The car came in on a tow truck and it was usually less than a minute to wiggle the key and gear shifter in a precise manner to get it back into reverse.
