Hi. I have an 02' 9-5 that really shuddered when the car was warm in D with brakes applied. Yesterday, I picked it up with the experimental "shim kit" prepared by SAAB USA and installed by my Chicago area dealer. I have to report back to both dealer and SAAB in a few weeks. (I leave for Japan tomorrow for work so it won't be driven, but, anyway...)

First Impressions

1. Wow. The suspension, everything, seems super tight. Very firm, heavy ride. I feel like I'm driving the 89' Mercedes 300E that my mom had when I was in highschool. Suddenly my new 9-5 got all uppity on me.

2. Sport Mode feels a little less responsive. The car seems not as nimble as it was before. But the added feeling of heaviness of the car is sort of cool, too, as it seems more of a "get out of my way" kinda car as I fly down highway 90 between downtown and Highland Park. By the way, this has made me realize the 9-5 design is, all in all, kind of a muscle car.

3. Importantly, the vibration is actually much better. It remains there slightly when the car is cold and in Park, but it is virtually gone when the car is warm and I'm stopped in traffic. Still tremors of a little grumble, but its obviously dampened. I wonder about two things: Is this just a temporary fix? I mean has the problem only been pushed down further into the depths of car, as it were, and is only waiting for some age on the car to bring it back to the top?

Whatever, it seems to be working, for now. Impressed with the speed of response from both dealer and SAAB USA... Though, I did have to raise my voice and imply all sorts of things to get the response.
