I've had scissors jacks tip and fall.......... Most scissors jacks are too compact. By the time the load is lifted to a usable working height the jack is almost fully extended and offers little security against tipping or rolling.
Only problem with hydraulic jacks, in my experience, is they will creep downward if the bleed valve is not tight. There have been news stories about jack stands collapsing too. Usually operator error in not seating the locks securely but fatal just the same. Hence always use additional blocking.
