Oh, you came in from Redlands and waited on it while I did the repair?
Cylinder wash down is not common on the Saab engines but I throw it out there only if the timing chain has not jumped.
It happens if you start the engine cold many times like, driving it in and out of the garage.
The fuel mixture is very rich at cold start and if done several times, it slowly washes away the oil film on cylinder wall and also the oil that sits behind the piston ring to stop the ring from collapsing inwards during the compression stroke.
It happens more often on the white engine Volvo's.
My neighbor had a Jaguar XJ8 that it happened to and another friend running a shop have gotten a few different brand cars in with the same problem.
An 01 X5 in the family that I service on a regular basis, I have rescued back from the dead three times when it lost compression on all cylinders.
First time I filled all cylinder with oil and got compression restored. The last two times I managed to pull the fuel pump fuse and only give the engine a few spurts of fuel now and then and slowly got it back up and running.
That X5 has only seen fully synthetic 5W-40 oil in all its life but after the last episode, I switch to the thicker 15W-40 and it has not acted up once since then for the last 40K miles. It now has 270K miles.
