A few more CPS installation tips Posted by Doug W [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just replaced my Crank Position Sensor. It took me about 1.5 hours + .5 hours clean up and test drive. Here are a few tips.
1) Tie a string to the connector once it's free from it's mooring. Leave the spool of string at the base of the windshield. When you pull the CPS out from the front the string will trace the exact wire path. When installing the new CPS just cut the string off the old one and tie it to the new one. Pull the string from the firewall side and fish the new CPS cable and connector into place. Remove the string and click the connector into its mooring.
2) Use a nail set to angularly position the CP Sensor in the engine block. The nail set is tapered and just the right diameter. As you twist the CP sensor the Nail Set will drop into the threaded hole. Use your fingers to push the sensor home. If your fingers are too weak like mine - see next step.
3) Use a 1 x 2 x 9 inch piece of wood to push the sensor fully home into the engine block. You'll hear it click into postion as it hits the engine block. I did not try to use the screw to draw the sensor into the engine block.
4) Use masking tape on the end of the T30 torx bit to retain the screw while you're manipulating it around installing it into the sensor.
The only other part I took off to do this job was the heat shield over the Turbo just as stated in the WIS.
Hope this helps!
