GM's policy of decontenting the 9-5

About a week ago, I picked up a used '05 9-5 Linear wagon from a seller just N of Atlanta. The reason I bought it was that our '01 9-5 wagon, despite the fact that it had only 134k miles, was beginning to show its age and we had an eager buyer for it. I had seen photos of the '05 car beforehand and was aware that it didn't have a luggage rack. It was, after all, "only" a Linear. All of the omitted features that I'll mention below were on the '01. After getting into the car the first time, I noticed that the driver's seat, although electrically controlled, had no memory settings. There were no fog lights. There were no headlight washers. There was no WB on the radio. (Being fair, that had been omitted beginning in MY '04.) I can only wonder how much the General saved on a per-car basis by trimming down the list of "extras." All, in all, though, I am happy with the car as it had only 48k miles on its odo and passed an inspection at my Ann Arbor indy shop with flying colors.
