First I want to thank all of you for your kind words and support throughout my Saab ordeal. I keep reminding myself it's just a car, but... it's my new Saab! I wish all of you the best of luck. Enjoy your Saab for everything it is!
Ok, hopefully now I can DRIVE!!!!! Here's the Saabstory, I'll try to keep it brief. On day three of Aero ownership (84 miles) I started hearing popping and grinding every time I shifted into second gear. Not knowing what it was, I parked the car for the weekend. Monday morning I went out and found a large pool of oil on my garage floor (unrelated). The car was towed back to the dealer the next day :(
The oil was leaking from a serious crack in the oil pan (one in a million, for sure). At first they said 10 days to get a new pan from Sweden. Then they decided to take one off another Aero. Not a simple job, and a long story for another time. By now my car was a week old.
I had to take the car back again because it was still complaining whenever I shifted into second gear. Turned out not to be serious, but we didn't know that at the time. There is an HVAC duct under the shifter that goes through the console to the back seat area. Apparently it was not installed correctly. The shifter was hitting it every time I shifted into second gear. Car was now two weeks old.
The car went back yesterday for the third problem (I chose to ignore it for a week because I was tired of it all...). There was a serious clunk in the right front suspension, over certain road conditions. Turned out it was the dealers fault, they had not removed the rubber shipping material from the spring. They use this in Aeros and Viggens. Duh, and that caused me another whole week of anxiety!
Bottom line is that I could not use the car for 9 of the 21 days I've owned it... and the other days were limited. Only one of the problems was serious, but it was very disappointing to have to go through three weeks of leaks, grinds, pops, and clunks, on a brand new (and expensive!) car. (Believe me, I've already had more than my share on my other two Saabs.) Hopefully I can DRIVE it now! It has 440 miles on it, I am anxious to break it in, and learn to trust it again. I'm going to wait for 1000 miles to take it in for it's "30 day" checkup. Cross your fingers, I don't want to go back to the dealer again for a VERY long time!
One good thing came out of all of this. After 13 years and my third Saab, my dealer has learned to REALLY LISTEN to me. Hope that continues.
Thanks again, Happy (safe) driving!
AeroLady :)
