I have owned my 9-5 for 12 years and have accumulated 317,000 miles in that time. I never owned or drove a 9000 so I can't relate any differences between the two, but while the 9-5 does contain a tremendous amount of electronics these black boxes have proven themselves (for the most part) to be very trouble-free. The alarm siren is the lone electronic bug-a-boo, and it can be replaced/repaired or disconnected when its batteries and/or capacitors die.
