There are sensors that measure airflow, intake temperature, etc. Perhaps one is bad or some water got into the connections. You'll probably see this again and then they'll find it.
Then again, perhaps you got some water in the gas. Was the tank pretty low when this happened? (long shot)
Re the ACC: Was somebody playing with the Econ button? If not, I've found that sometimes I have to raise or lower the temp if it's not working as I would like. It tries to be smart and cool the car more if it senses direct sunlight, etc. I'm wondering if it puts the AC on automatically if the defrost turns on. Normally that's used to dry out the interior air so that the car windows don't fog.
