replacing the springs isn't the solution Posted by Snowmobile [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Rear springs, Dan Y, Sun, 18 Mar 2012 06:51:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Depending on your capability, you may be better off to do the work yourself. Doing the rear suspension is not a hard DIY project + you will likely save money + know it's the way you want it. Better to get a discounted price on the car imho.
Like the title says... the springs sag, but the shocks go out also + probably also bushings, all to varying degrees in that 80-100k range (depending how the car was driven)... The solution most use to deal with the springs is to just install spacers when changing shocks. You will need an alignment when all is said + done. Lots of threads on this. See link for my tips from when I did it (based on tips here + fixmysaab) + run a search. But putting new springs on the car is a short term solution that can be reached more cost effectively (not that springs cost much, but spacers are cheaper)... I put wagon springs on the back of our sedan because of the loads we haul in it, but new vs used is little benefit (and some nuisance of them sagging initially)... oh, and you can measure the ride height of all 4 wheels + compare with spec to give you an idea of where it's at... search ride height here + you will get lots of results!
btw, I heard (on the c900 bb) that koni shocks are on sale right now (it's an annual spring thing - I bought mine in fall + paid $100 more for the set!)...
fwiw, as I understand it, my indy's cost effective solution is to reduce the camber in the alignment + the cars stop eating tires even if they ride low (obviously toe in needs to be right also as that will eat tires faster than anything). Saab's -2 degree spec is too negative. Get a Saab indy to do your alignment if possible.
James...
some tips from when I did my rears.
