By this I figure you just hammered the pins flat with a hammer on each side? If it works long term, sure beats buying the $250 master link install tool.
Did you leave chains on sprockets while rolling in? Could just cut chain at TDC, roll chain in with turning crank alone and then refit with cams and crank at TDC.
How did you get the master link plate to slide onto the pins? My tool has a switchable die to first press the link plate onto the pins and then press the ends of the two pins to match original.
