Aftermarket:
- Cost more, ~$135
- Look nicer
- Need annual maintenance, disassembly and greasing of the internal cylinder
OEM:
- Lower cost, ~$53
- Plain black plastic appearance
- Will work for 4-5 years then need replacement
These valves are a safety device to prevent excess pressure to the throttle body inlet during rapid throttle closure. They are not a performance part! Selecting a valve with a higher spring rating, as some will recommend, will only result in other CEL codes as the engine management software detects the valve is not relieving properly (been there, done that).
I installed an aftermarket valve on my 2000 after the OEM valve failed because I liked the appearance. Nothing wrong with using one.
