The "no turbo zone"

In the morning, I usually let it idle for 45-60 seconds before taking off (just enough for the garage door to go up and then back down). But more importantly (in my mind) is what you first do when you start and stop the car. I have a 'no turbo zone' about a mile out from my house and place of work. I drive the engine very easily in these zones. Doing so allows the turbo to cool a little before actually stopping the engine. I have no proof that this helps with the turbo or engine, but from reading various posts and what I know of engines, I think this is sufficient.
Anyone disagree?
