Yes, agree with touch feeling the turbo shaft. Remove the air intake pipe (pretty easy) and then grasp the turbo fin at the shaft. If there is any end play (in and out) then it is the turbo. Can get full replacements at XSBOOST on ebay. I have done the V6 replacement and the only trick is you might have to cut the lower left (passenger) exhaust stud if it does not come out. This saves a ton of time. The V6 has the turbo housing as part of the front exhaust manifold. I have not done the cart replacement, but others say that it works and can save money. This has an LPT type turbo.
I have also seen that the V6 throws head gaskets, etc. Could be this I guess. Turbo is easier to do than head gasket buy quite a bit (at least I think so).
Since it is white smoke, it might be harder to see, but if you take off the air intake at the throttle body, check to see if there is any significant gunk in the throttle body. When blue smoke turbo failure, there will be oil in here.
