Buying a 1999 Saab 9-5 SE (V6) with a bad Ignition

Greetings,
I have an opportunity to buy this nice looking 1999 Saab 9-5 SE with a V6 motor, which doesn't run with a bad ignition. The ignition has been taking apart by this backyard mechanic and reassembled, but doesn't work. In my opinion, the car is worth an asking price of $550. I also have a ignition assembly (new twice and ignition and key as a matching set) lined up that I can buy for this car.
Do you guys see if my thinking is clear and worth the effort? I do not want to have to take it to the stealership to get it running if I can help it...
I was going to use this car for my 16 yr. old new driver in the family.
Please send me your thoughts and recommendations.
Thank you and Have a Happy New Year!!
Rick P.
