A completely different kettle of fish... Posted by Larry West [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Buying a 1999 Saab 9-5 SE (V6) with a bad Ignition, Rick P, Sat, 29 Dec 2012 12:14:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Ok, if it needs a replacement TWICE with key, then perhaps it is worth the asking price. But just price out TWICE modules beforehand. I don't know if there is anything different between the 4 & 6 cyl versions of TWICE off hand.
And, DO NOT RUN THE CAR WITH ONLY ONE KEY! After replacement the TWICE and getting the car running, have at least one more key/remote combo made up. Far, far cheaper (not to mention easier) than doing another TWICE. Read the Key FAQ.
But my same admonition applies regarding the timing belt. Without a known date of when it was replaced, and a receipt to that effect, it is something that must be done ASAP, else you risk a hefty bill when it breaks.
For me, buying a V6 without knowledge of the timing belt age, I'll always replace the belt, pulleys and water pump as soon as possible.
