Difference between Pro and D-I-Y'er Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 16 Mar 2013 13:15:53 In Reply to: Re: 2.3 thermostat? Chad's a Pro and has undoubtedly done this job enough to learn the shortcuts and easiest paths for access to the thermostat housing bolts.
I am only a D-I-Y'er and after replacing the thermostat twice (or has it been three times?) still hate the job. My biggest obstacles are two fold: bifocals, and not having a flex-head ratchet.
I am always fighting to find the perfect combination of extensions, flex adapters, and socket length to allow me access into the area behind the engine with my fixed head ratchet. A flex-head might allow better access since the end of the extension would not need to be directly beneath the only access point.
