was 12.9V with the car running? if so, I would check all the cables (and after that the alternator).
A charged battery (measured disconnected) should not be 12.0V. 12.0V represents <25% charged. Fully charged is about 12.7V so 12.9V is pretty high if that was measured disconnected. Load testing provides better info though...
