take a look at the harness where it goes through the trung. Snap the "L" shaped plastic piece out of the trunk. Just move it sideways it will snap out. Pull the bellows back. If the wires are broken splice them together.
It is a good idea to open the interior cover on the trunk, and unclip the harness to give more slack. When I did mine I added a couple inches of wire to each wire. I soldered it and used shrink tubing to cover the joints.
This is a common problem and very fixable. My repair has lasted 6 years without problem.
I have heard of people putting in a new harness as a fix. This is not necessary nor recommended because you are just putting a too short harness back in for a lot of money, and could have the problem come back.
